  17. This document contains information regarding the following Novell DOS 7 update
  18. files:  CHKDSK.EXE,  DPMS.EXE, EMM386.EXE, HIMEM.SYS, IBMBIO.COM, IBMDOS.COM,
  19. MEMMAX.COM, NWCDEX.EXE, PRINT.COM, SETFIFO.EXE, and SHARE.EXE.  Items marked
  20. with an asterisk (*) indicates FILES, SYMPTOMS and/or SOLUTIONS which are new
  21. to this update.  Previously updated files contain all prior fixes.

  33.  -CHKDSK is not compatible with Stacker 4.0 drives.

  35. SOLUTION

  37.  Overwrite the CHKDSK.EXE file in the NWDOS directory with the new CHKDSK.EXE
  38. file.  This version of CHKDSK.EXE includes a /NS command line parameter to
  39. instruct CHKDSK to not do internal Stacker checking  on a Stacker 4.0 drive.

  42. SYMPTOM
  43.  
  44.  -Speed issues with the NWCDEX CD-ROM extension driver.
  45.  
  46. SOLUTION
  47.  
  48. Overwrite the NWCDEX.EXE file in the NWDOS directory with the new NWCDEX.EXE.
  49. This is the German version of NWCDEX that may help with some speed issues that
  50. are encountered.

  53. SYMPTOM
  54.  
  55.  -Users may experience minor problems with the DPMS.EXE file that ships with
  56. Novell DOS 7.
  57.  
  58. SOLUTION
  59.  
  60.  Overwrite the DPMS.EXE file in the NWDOS directory with the new DPMS.EXE.

  63. SYMPTOM
  64.  
  65.  -Loss of characters and speed of transmission issues during serial
  66.   communications.

  68. SOLUTION
  69.  
  70.  Use SETFIFO.EXE.  This utility allows the user to set FIFO buffers of  1, 4,
  71. 8, or 14 bytes. This may solve both speed and loss of characters issues during
  72. serial communications--possible only on a 16550 UART chip.

  75. SYMPTOMS
  76.  
  77.  -Minor problems may occur with NE2100 cards.
  78.  
  79.  -Minor problems may occur with a second DMA controller on PS/2 and compatible
  80. machines when channels 5, 6 or 7 are selected.

  82.  *Problems running CodeView when DPMI is enabled.
  83.  
  84.  *VCPI memory not being released in Task Manager upon exiting BCC32 from
  85. Borland C++ Version 4.

  89.  Overwrite the EMM386.EXE file in the NWDOS directory with the new EMM386.EXE
  90. file.

  93. SYMPTOM

  95.  -Some EMS page frame problems may occur with HIMEM.SYS.

  99.  Overwrite the HIMEM.SYS file in the NWDOS directory with the new HIMEM.SYS
  100. file.

  103. SYMPTOM
  104.  
  105.  -Some secondary command processors (such as a DOS shell) can change the
  106. memory state.
  107.  
  108. SOLUTION
  109.  
  110.  Overwrite the MEMMAX.COM file in the NWDOS directory with the new MEMMAX.COM
  111. file. Only the primary command processor can now change the  memory state.
  112.  
  113.  
  114. SYMPTOMS
  115.  
  116.  -Accessing a Stacker 4.0 volume would cause EMM386 protection errors to occur
  117. if users had Stacker 4.0 on their hard disk before installing Novell DOS 7.
  118.  
  119.  -A double \\ appearing with NetWare 4.x LOGIN.EXE.
  120.  
  121.   For example: "D:\\filename.ext"
  122.  
  123.  -The system sometimes reads beyond the end-of-chain when corrup directory
  124. entries are encountered.
  125.  
  126.  -The key combinations of ALT-T and ALT-Q not working correctly with the
  127. Colorado Tape software.
  128.  
  129.  -Problem with initializing IRMA 3270 emulation software by DCA.
  130.  
  131.  *Inability to start a DOS session under OS/2 due to SETVER returning an
  132. invalid version number.
  133.  
  134.  *SETVER returning an invalid version number during a VM boot in which a 3rd
  135. party device driver takes over INT 21.
  136.  
  137. *SOLUTION
  138.  
  139.  XCOPY the new IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM to the root directory using the /HR
  140. switch.  Then, use ATTRIB -A +R +S +H to give the file the     System,
  141. Read-only and Hidden attributes.
  142.  
  143.  Example #1 -- from the command line, issue the following separate commands:
  144.  
  145.      XCOPY A:\IBMBIO.COM C:\IBMBIO.COM /HRV
  146.      ATTRIB -A +R +S +H C:\IBMBIO.COM
  147.      XCOPY A:\IBMDOS.COM C:\IBMDOS.COM /HRV
  148.      ATTRIB -A +R +S +H C:\IBMDOS.COM

  151. *SYMPTOM
  152.  
  153.  *Files that are open on a PNW server can be renamed by a client station.
  154.       
  155. *SOLUTION
  156.  
  157.  COPY the new SHARE.EXE to your Novell DOS 7 subdirectory and then XCOPY the
  158. new IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM to the root directory using    the /HR switch.
  159. Then, use ATTRIB -A +R +S +H to give the file the System, Read-only and Hidden
  160. attributes as shown in Example #1 above.

  163.   IBMBIO.COM, IBMDOS.COM and SHARE.EXE are rebuilds containing all previous
  164. fixes (where applicable.)

  171.  *Machine hangs after the PRT-SCR key has been pressed when PRINT.COM is

  200. Installation Instructions:
  201.  
  202. Make a backup copy of each file being replaced before copying the new file
  203. into that same directory.  The integrity of any file can be verified by
  204. comparing the file's checksum with the above information.  To calculate the
  205. checksum of any file, use the Novell DOS 7 command XDIR <filename.ext> /C 
  206. from the command line.
